PM Petrol Relief Scheme 2026: How to Register, Get Your Token and Save Rs. 100 Per Litre
Petrol has become a heavy monthly expense for Pakistani households. Between July 1 and September 11, petrol rose by Rs72 per litre, a 24% increase. In response, the government launched the Prime Minister’s Special Petrol Relief Scheme, a targeted subsidy for people who ride bikes, rickshaws and small cars.
This guide explains who qualifies, how to register, how to get your fuel token, and what has changed since the launch.
What Is the PM Petrol Relief Scheme?
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced the scheme on a Sunday, amid rising fuel prices linked to tensions in the Middle East. It gives eligible users Rs. 100 off every litre of petrol, up to a fixed monthly limit.
The government chose a targeted subsidy over cutting the petroleum levy for everyone. The petroleum levy stood at Rs78 per litre, with an extra Rs5 carbon surcharge, and the prime minister preferred to direct relief to the most vulnerable.
Who Is Eligible?
The scheme covers:
- Motorcycles and other two-wheelers
- Rickshaws and Qingqi (Chingchi) rickshaws
- Other three-wheelers
- Cars with engines up to 800cc
Some rules are easy to miss:
- The user gets the relief, not necessarily the owner. Relief goes to the person using the vehicle, and each user may claim for only one vehicle.
- The SIM must be in your name. Registration SMS must be sent from a SIM registered in the applicant’s own name. Wrong SIM information or inaccurate vehicle details will prevent registration.
- Older vehicles are now included. Motorcycles, rickshaws and Qingqis registered on or after January 1, 2006 can now register, after the prime minister directed that 20-year-old vehicles be covered.
How Much Relief Will You Get?
| Vehicle type | Discount | Quota | Maximum benefit |
| Motorcycle, rickshaw, Qingqi, other 2/3-wheelers | Rs. 100/litre | 20 litres per month | Rs. 2,000 per month |
| Cars up to 800cc | Rs. 100/litre | 30 litres per month | Rs. 3,000 per month |
The government expects around 10 million two-wheeler users, 800,000 three-wheeler users and one million small-car users to benefit. The petroleum minister said Rs25 billion per month would be set aside for the scheme.
How the quota works in practice:
- Each eligible two- or three-wheeler user gets four tokens per month, each worth Rs500 in relief.
- For vehicles up to 800cc, the latest announcement gives Rs100 off per litre on 10 litres every 10 days.
Step-by-Step Registration
Registration is done entirely by SMS, and you can do it from home.
- Open the messaging app on the phone whose SIM is registered in your name.
- Write REG followed by your 13-digit CNIC, your vehicle registration number, the first letter or word of the province where the vehicle is registered, and the vehicle’s registration date. The date format is DDMMYYYY.
- Send the message to 9771.
- You will receive a confirmation message if registration succeeds, and registration is a one-time process.
Cost: The prime minister announced that registration messages are completely free.
Tip: Check each detail before sending. A wrong CNIC digit or vehicle number is the most common reason a registration fails.
How to Get Your Fuel Token
After registration, follow this process each time you want discounted petrol:
- Send TOK to 9771 before you leave for the petrol pump.
- You will receive a token number by SMS.
- Show the token to the pump attendant.
- Pay the discounted rate.
The earlier five-litre limit on a single token has been abolished. Motorcyclists, Qingqi owners and rickshaw owners who bought less than five litres were told they would get Rs500 in relief within a week.
When Did the Scheme Start?
The government announced the registration process on Monday, September 14, and users could register from home. Pump-level relief began at midnight, first in Islamabad and then in the rest of the country, including AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan. The government described the nationwide rollout as starting from the Wednesday–Thursday midnight. Registration is now continuing nationwide.
Current Petrol Price
Fuel prices change on a regular schedule. The OGRA notification in early October put petrol at Rs398.30 per litre. Check the latest OGRA notification before you fill up, and subtract Rs. 100 per eligible litre to estimate what you will pay.
Real-World Problems to Watch For
Early rollouts are rarely smooth. Some users reported problems at pumps in the first days. One reader said two stations they visited could not process the discount despite displaying banners for the scheme. To avoid trouble:
- Use a pump that is clearly processing the scheme.
- Keep your token SMS and CNIC with you.
- If your registration fails, correct your details and resend.
- Be patient if you are owed a delayed refund, since pending relief is paid after verification.
Beware of Scams
Whenever money is involved, fake websites appear. Never share your CNIC, OTP, bank details or card information on unofficial sites or with people who contact you. The legitimate process needs only an SMS to 9771. If a site asks for a fee or a login, treat it as suspicious.
